1. How difficult is it to get a good income with PvE? And whats a reasonable time frame to get there? I'm debating if I should buy the 180 or 360 day sub at the reduced re-activation rate. Running L4 missions in highsec can get up to about 50 mil per hour, top end. That's reasonably respectable. Expect to be using a Navy Battleship with all Tech 2 fittings, and spending your Loyalty points wisely to get a return that high. You can get into l4's by around 3 months (from a new toon), but won't be making that kind of solid ISK until 6 months in when you have fancy toys and leet skills.
Incursions, and Null/Lowsec offers other options, especially if you get a good corp. 50 mil per hour is low compared to what's possible; the advantage to l4's is their safety and reliability. Even though my primary income is in nullsec, I still keep a battleship fitted for l4's to fall back on.
Other options for combat pilot income include Incursions, Faction Warfare, ratting in high-value space (nullsec), and exploration. Take a look at them and go with the one that sounds most interesting.
2. Whats a good way to find a player corporation? I played mostly solo before and as you can see am still in an NPC corp. Use the recruitment forum here on the EVE website. It's by far the best place to get in touch with legit corps. Just make sure the corp provides something to it's pilots if it's tax is high; otherwise it's probably a noob fleecing outfit.
3. What are the EPIC storyline missions? Are there other special missions to look out for? There are 7 Epic Arcs: Sisters Arc, designed for new players. 4 Level 4 arcs, one for each empire. 2 Pirate arcs, in nullsec, designed to be done in an AF or Interceptor.
With the exception of the newb arc, they pay somewhere between 200m and 400m isk per run. They can be run every 90 days.
COSMOS missions are free-form mission chains out in space; they can only ever be done once per character. Do your research before trying them, because failure is permanent.
4. Is there any important information about Exploration that the tutorial doesn't point out? Explo is changing a lot with Odyssey in June, so there's not much help anyone can give yet. As a profession, it's designed to be very unpredicatable; long stretches of making a pittance insterspersed with stunning jackpots. It's very solo friendly, if you can fly the right ships.
Bottom line: Find a corp, preferably one that'll teach you how to survive in nullsec. EVE solo is pretty boring; EVE solo in highsec is soul-killing. - Mission Overhaul - Bridging the PVP / PVE Gap - -áIf the game stops teaching people to fear lowsec, maybe people will start going there? |
